Attendorn is granted a town charter. Situated at the crossroads of two trade routes, there not yet many people living here. Most of them are self-sufficient farmers.
But the early inhabitants of Attendorn could already sense the technology gene: they extracted iron from the rock in bloomery furnaces – a precursor to their later economic success.
Attendorn has a population of around 3,000. A lot of the men work in the up-and-coming metalworking industry.
August Beul establishes a fittings factory. The small foundry grows continuously. The company’s success derives from inventiveness, craftsmanship, customer orientation and loyalty to the Attendorn site.
Attendorn is flourishing. It has a population of 25,000; the companies employ a total staff of 15,000 employees subject to social security contributions.
ABA BEUL is owner-managed in the fourth generation and still manufactures its products at the Attendorn site. With its four product lines ranging from complex customised castings through to electronically controlled components, the manufacturer is a major employer at one of NRW’s key business hubs.
